Evelyn Ilene Singer, 78, of Albion
78-year old Evelyn Ilene Singer of Albion peacefully passed away from this life early Thursday morning, May 14 at her residence. She was born on Feb. 26, 1942 in Edwards County to Mervin and Kathryn (Cox) Rigg. Evelyn married Porter G. Singer Sr. on Nov. 15, 2000 in Albion and he survives. Evelyn had worked for Lovins Pharmacy in Albion for 38 years and then after her retirement, she worked for her nephew’s business, Rigg Pharmacy, before fully retiring to spend more time enjoying her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren, shopping for antiques, sewing, and working in her flower beds. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albion.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her husband, Porter; two daughters, Tammy (Jack) Colbert and Melanie Wirth, both of Albion; three step-daughters, Janet (Michael) Dagley of Mobile, Ala., Elizabeth (Dennis) Wyatt of Bowling Green, Ky. and Sandy Singer of St. Louis, Mo.; three step-sons, Porter G. Singer Jr. of Owensville, Ind., Mike Hayes and Tony (Lannie) Hayes, both of Albion; one brother, Donald (Jean) Rigg of Albion; two sister-in-laws, Eva (Michael) Singer Kelly of Deltona, Fla. and Claudia (Max) Singer Lawrence of Deming, N.M.; three grandchildren, Tessa (Eric) Shaw, Luke (Teresa) Colbert and Michael (Becky) Hungate; fourteen step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and step-nieces. Preceding Evelyn in death were her parents; two sisters, Janice Parker and Dianie Richards and previous husband, James Hayes.
Graveside services for Evelyn Singer were held Monday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. Memorials can be directed to the American Lung Association and will be accepted at the service or at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion who are in charge of the arrangements.
